How to add a vignette with Photo FX

I have tried several vignette tools in different apps and have found Photo FX to be the most versatile of all them. It also saves in maximum resolution, should you want to print out your final image.

Convert colour to black and white

First of all we’ll change the colour from full colour to a black and white effect which will soften and a add a bit of nostalgia to our photograph. Open your photograph in Camera+. Choose the Flash setting to lighten the face.

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 18.0px Helvetica}
p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; min-height: 14.0px}
p.p3 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}
p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; min-height: 14.0px}

Next, choose FX (Effects) from the bottom menu, select I love Analog and then choose the Silver Gelatin option to get the effect shown (below, right).

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 18.0px Helvetica}
p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 18.0px Helvetica; min-height: 22.0px}
p.p3 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}
p.p4 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; min-height: 14.0px}

Crop and add vignette

You need to get your subject as close as possible to the centre of the frame so in this case I used Crop Suey to crop in from the right and make my subject more central.

Next, open Photo FX. Choose Lens fx and select the Vignette option.

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica; min-height: 14.0px}
p.p2 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}

After selecting Vignette, you will be presented with a variety of vignette options. Choose White Circle and play with the 2 sliders until you have a result that you like.

Different results are achieved by adjusting the sliders.

p.p1 {margin: 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px 0.0px; font: 12.0px Helvetica}

If you prefer a black vignette. Choose the Black Circle or Black Square from the Vignette options.
